St. Andrew’s Lodge No. 16, instituted before the formation of the Grand Lodge of Canada in the Province of Ontario, is one of the oldest Masonic lodges in Canada and holds the distinction as the oldest Lodge in the Greater Toronto Area. Founded in 1822 by Sir William Campbell, St. Andrew’s lodge is one of the oldest lodges in Canada, instituted before the formation of Grand Lodge of Canada in the Province of Ontario, and is currently the oldest lodge in the Greater Toronto Area.
St. Andrew’s was dubbed the “Mother Lodge of York and Toronto” by Most Worshipful Brother John Ross Robertson, famed Canadian newspaper publisher, politician, and philanthropist from Toronto, Ontario. Members of St. Andrew’s went on to establish Zetland Lodge, Ionic Lodge, Ashlar Lodge, and Harmony Lodge.
